Attendance Procedure Update

Beginning immediately, you may use ParentVue to request that your student's future absence(s) be excused. Directions on how to do this are linked below.

Here are some very important points:
  • This applies to full day absences only, from the current date forward (you cannot use this to request that past absences be excused).
  • Please remember to include the reason for the absence in your request—otherwise the request will not be approved.
  • This does not apply to requests for early dismissals or tardies. You will need to continue to send in notes for early dismissals and tardies.
  • This does not apply to absences for longer than 3 days. For absences longer than 3 days, you must continue to apply to your student's alpha administrator for permission.
You are strongly encouraged to use ParentVue instead of hard copy notes, faxes, email, or the online “Excused Absence Submission” form on our website to request that current full day or future full day absences be excused.
Using ParentVue will help expedite your student’s attendance to update quickly and help reduce those attendance office-generated phone/text alerts.

To enhance your experience while handling attendance related concerns we have updated our attendance procedures. As such, we will no longer have a traditional attendance office. Instead, you will be able to handle your attendance related matters through the main office. Procedures for each attendance related matter are listed below:

Students:

Tardy to School (7:25 – 7:35) Excused - If a student has an excuse note, then they will report to the main office. They will check in using the laptop and receive a printed pass. Students will then report directly to class and give their pass to their teacher.

Tardy to School (7:25 – 7:35) Unexcused – Report straight to class. Teacher will mark the student with an unexcused tardy. Three or more times tardy to class during a marking period could result in a referral and disciplinary action.

Tardy to School (after 7:35) Excused or Unexcused – Students must report to the main office to check in. Students will drop their excuse note in the appropriate box in the main office. Students will record their tardy using the laptop in the main office and receive a printed pass to class. Students will then report directly to class and give their pass to their teacher.

Tardy to Class – report to class and your teacher will record the tardy. Three or more times tardy to class during a marking period could result in a referral and disciplinary action.

Excused Absence Notes – A student who have been absent from school should drop their excuse note in the appropriate box in the main office. Students should submit their notes within 5 days of returning to school.

Early Dismissals Notes – Students will drop early dismissal notes in the main office using the appropriate box prior to the start of school. Once their note has been verified, students will be delivered their pass, or they will be called from class to receive their Early Dismissal pass. Once a student has received their approved pass from the office, students should inform their teacher of their early dismissal and be dismissed at the appropriate time. If students are returning to school, please follow the tardy to school excused procedures. Submit your early dismissal pass as your excuse note.

Bus Notes – Students will drop these notes in the main office before school.


Parents:

Excused Absence Notes (past absences within the last 5 days) – Please send a note to include the student's first and last name, date of absence, the reason, a contact number, and your signature. Your child can submit the note to Attendance in the Main Office.

Excused Absence (current day and future days, not to exceed 3) – Please use ParentVue to request that your student's future absence(s) be excused. You must indicate the reason for the absence.

Excused Tardy Notes – Please send a note to include the student's first and last name, date of absence, the reason, a contact number, and your signature. Your child can submit the note to Attendance in the Main Office.

Early Dismissals – Students will be granted an early dismissal by note or email, if a note is submitted and can be verified. Please include the student's first and last name, your contact information and your signature on each note.

Early dismissals can also be granted to students by in-person check out by an authorized adult, but due to our new security system, in order to expedite an early dismissal for your student, please send a note with your student that they can drop off first thing in the Main Office. They will then be sent an early dismissal pass so that they can leave at the appropriate time and save you time coming into the building.

If you forget to give your child a note, you can email a request to BFHS-Attendance@pwcs.edu (please allow at least 1-hour prior for processing).
