AP Calculus AB

[AP Course Description] [AP Course Homepage]

AP courses in calculus consist of a full high school academic year of work and are comparable to calculus courses in colleges and universities. It is expected that students who take an AP course in calculus will seek college credit, college placement, or both from institutions of higher learning.
Calculus AB should include all the prerequisites for a year's course in calculus and is designed to be taught over a full high school academic year. If students are to be adequately prepared for the Calculus AB Exam, most of the year must be devoted to the topics in differential and integral calculus. These topics are the focus of the AP Exam questions.

AP Calculus BC

[AP Course Description] [AP Course Homepage]

AP courses in calculus consist of a full high school academic year of work and are comparable to calculus courses in colleges and universities. It is expected that students who take an AP course in calculus will seek college credit, college placement, or both from institutions of higher learning.
Calculus BC is a full-year course in the calculus of functions of a single variable. It includes all topics taught in Calculus AB plus additional topics, but both courses are intended to be challenging and demanding; they require a similar depth of understanding of common topics. A Calculus AB subscore is reported based on performance on the portion of the Calculus BC Exam devoted to Calculus AB topics.

AP Computer Science A

[AP Course Description] [AP Course Homepage]

AP Computer Science A is an introductory computer science course that emphasizes object-oriented programming methodology with a concentration on problem solving and algorithm development, and is meant to be the equivalent of a first-semester college-level course in computer science. It also includes the study of data structures, design, and abstraction.
The nature of the AP course is suggested by the words “computer science” in the title. Their presence indicates a disciplined approach to a more broadly conceived subject than would a descriptor such as “computer programming.” There are no computing prerequisites for the AP course. It is designed to serve as a first course in computer science for students with no prior computing experience.

AP Statistics

[AP Course Description] [AP Course Homepage]

AP Statistics is appropriate for secondary school students who wish to complete studies equivalent to a one semester, introductory, non-calculus-based, college course in statistics.
Statistics and mathematics educators who serve as members of the AP Statistics Development Committee have prepared the Course Description and exam to reflect the content of a typical introductory college course in statistics . The exam is representative of such a course and therefore is considered appropriate for the measurement of skills and knowledge in the field of introductory statistics.
