UPDATE 2/12/21

LOTS of info here for Candidates. Current members, please scroll down.

Acceptance Letters: The Battlefield High School chapter of the National Honor Society is pleased to announce that letters of acceptance have been issued to students selected for membership to the chapter by the Faculty Council for the school year 2020-2021. These letters were mailed to students' school email addresses this week.

Registration: Receipt of an acceptance letter does not mean automatic membership in the NHS. Selected students will need to attend the chapter's induction ceremony to be officially welcomed into the chapter. To register for the induction ceremony, accepted students are asked to submit an RSVP survey, no later than Wednesday, 2/17, indicating their intent to attend the ceremony. A link to the survey is in the acceptance letter. Officers and sponsors will work with any accepted students unable to attend this induction ceremony to ensure they may become fully inducted members of the NHS.

Induction: The induction ceremony will take place virtually on Tuesday, 2/23, beginning at 6:30pm. A link to the ceremony is in the acceptance letter. There are limited spots available, so we ask that accepted students do not share the Zoom link and that any invited family or guests, where possible, attend the ceremony via the same device as the selected student.

Membership -- Your First Meeting: The first meeting of the NHS, for current and newly inducted members, will take place Thursday, 2/25, at 3:30pm via Zoom link found in the acceptance letter. At the first meeting your officers and sponsors will review academic and behavior expectations, society dues, NHS account registration, service requirements, etc. Members and sponsors look forward to welcoming you to the BHS NHS!

NHS induction for new members will take place on Tuesday 2/23, and an all-society meeting is scheduled for Thursday 2/25 at 3:30 in the Commons... just kidding, it'll be via Zoom.

As a reminder for current members:

1) Please submit dues in the amount of $20 by electronic payment to BHS; at the end of the 3rd quarter dues will be raised to $30; (for instructions, please see announcement from 11/16)

2) Please create an account and register yourself with the national NHS (for instructions, please see announcement from 11/16)

3) Please plan to attend the upcoming meeting, as we'll introduce our NHS officers, and they'll discuss your direction for the rest of the year, tutoring, hours, etc.

FOR EVERYONE: the officers and sponsors of the BHS chapter of the NHS thank you all--members, candidates, and parents--very much for your patience this school year, and we look forward to working with you.

         -Thank you

UPDATE 10/30 --We're back!

Greetings from Battlefield High School National Honor Society,

The Battlefield Chapter of the National Honor Society is excited to announce the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. The process of accepting student membership request and determining membership eligibility will begin Friday, October 30. NHS is established to recognize outstanding juniors and seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and best represent the four pillars of the National Honor Society — Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service.

Membership selection to the Battlefield Chapter of the National Honor Society is the responsibility of the BHS Faculty Council, a five-member board composed of appointed teachers. The procedures, outlined below and approved by the NHS National Council, are used in reviewing membership eligibility to the BHS chapter of the National Honor Society.

Primary Eligibility:

  1. Must be a current junior or senior of Battlefield High School.
  2.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5+ as of the end of school year 2019-20.
  3.  Must be a student in good standing.

Eligible students will be asked to complete an NHS Candidate Information Packet (“the Packet”) where they will list and describe activities, both in school and out of school, that demonstrate leadership, character, and service. Students will be evaluated by the Faculty Council on the qualities of leadership, character, and service. The Faculty Council will use information provided on the Packet in considering the students to be selected. Students will be selected by a majority vote of the Faculty Council. The student must complete this packet to be considered for membership; however, completion of the packet does not guarantee selection to the National Honor Society.

How to Apply:

  1. Students will first need to review their StudentVue account to confirm GPA eligibility requirement.
  2.  If GPA-eligible, students will complete the NHS Candidate Information Packet.
  3.  Complete the essay prompt for membership review (included in the Candidate Information Packet).

A link to the Candidate Information Packet can be found in the menu, at left--in "Fall 2020 Candidate Info Packet"--and will open a Microsoft Forms in a new tab.

  1. NHS membership eligibility process begins: Friday, October 30, 2020 at 8 a.m. (ET)
  2.  NHS Candidate Information Packet submission deadline: Friday, November 13 at 5 p.m. (ET)
  3.  Selection of 2020-2021 National Honor Society members: TBD
  4.  Virtual Induction Ceremony: TBD

Additional Update: Current members of the NHS are encouraged to visit the national NHS page, create an account, and request verification of that account by your chapter advisers.

UPDATE 10/12 (
revised 10/15)

Advisers are working to update the various procedures and requirements of NHS, from invitation to induction, to accommodate our current virtual situation and will have more information posted here as soon as possible.

In the meantime:

1. At this time
DO NOT SUBMIT any materials related to candidacy for membership in the NHS.  If you got a letter last spring inviting you to do so, please ignore it as it is void. The Battlefield chapter has shifted to a fall induction model and invitations to submit candidate-related materials this year have yet to be released.

2. Current members are encouraged to create an account with NHS to have their chapter registration verified.

3. Any current member, in good standing, interested in applying for a leadership position should complete the necessary documentation found in the "Officer Candidates" folder. Completed documents should be submitted to Mr. Cunningham by 10/23.

          -Thank you

The Battlefield High School Chapter of the National Honor Society will return shortly.

We ask that you please hold all questions and messages until more information is posted here.

We will be in touch shortly.

Mr. Cunningham is excited to welcome Ms. Mills and Mr. Street as co-advisers of the Battlefield Chapter of the National Honor Society. Mr. Hintosh will continue to serve as administrative advisor.

Mr. Cunningham: cunninpa@pwcs.edu

While we ask for your patience at this time, if there is the need for emergency or immediate contact regarding matters related to NHS, please refer your email communication to Mr. Cunningham. He will ensure administration is aware of any issue that requires attention at that level.

Students who already have verified accounts will receive an email from Acclaim, the badge hosting platform, in the next few days with instructions on how to accept their digital badge and proudly display it on their LinkedIn profile or other social media platform.

Students who have unverified accounts will not receive a digital badge until their accounts are verified. Instructions for verifying student accounts can be found on theNHS and NJHS websites.
