Academic Advising

Each Battlefield student meets with their counselor individually to have a holistic conversation about the student's personal interests, goals, balance, and wellness. This is a collaborative process that takes place over the entire course of the second semester of school.

Academic Advising Process:

  • Teachers speak with their students at the beginning of January to discuss academic performance and recommendations. Teachers enter these recommendations into the system.
  • Students and parents/guardians who have questions regarding specific recommendations are urged to speak directly with the teacher who made the recommendation.
  • Each student will meet individually with his/her school counselor to discuss course selection, graduation requirements, and post-secondary plans (mid-February - early April), regardless of whether or not the student enters preliminary course requests in Parent Portal.
  • It is very important that students and parents/guardians take an active role in the selection of courses during high school. It is our expectation that the student and parents/guardians have discussed the student's choices prior to the student meeting with his/her counselor.
  • Each student must select 7 credits worth of classes and at least two alternate electives.
  • Each student will be given an "Academic Advising Summary & Next Steps" document to take home to review with parents/guardians.
  • Teachers will revisit course recommendations with students, parents/guardians, and counselors in April and will make adjustments if necessary.
  • Course selection verification mailers will be sent home to students and parents/guardians in mid-April.
  • The deadline to make course selection changes will be posted by BHS.
